Chef 's Guide To Travel Snacking
Between going through security, sitting in close quarters with strangers and dealing with jet lag, there’s a lot of stress associated with flying. Having some control over the process can help reduce some of that common travel frustration; for me, if I can choose what foods I eat it makes my travel experience about three times more comfortable. I like to go for a variety of textures and flavors as well as snacks that are familiar so that I can feel more at home even when I’m miles away. Below is my shortlist of Pike Place travel treats that can make your culinary experience on the go a little more palatable.
Dried Veggie Chips
If you’re wanting to keep things healthy, tasty and crunchy on the go, you can’t go wrong by bringing on a bag of dried veggies from Simply the Best. Their oven dried veggies contain no sulfites or preservatives so you can feel good eating natural dried produce. Selection includes beets, green beans, and even dried okra! I like to go with their assorted vegetable bag to enjoy a little of everything.
Landjaeger Bavarian Meat’s landjaeger is my #1 way to stave off travel-associated hanger. A great source of protein, this high quality salami snack is completely shelf stable so no worries about keeping it cold. This snack is expertly preserved and still retains moisture making it a delicious snack outside the airport as well!
Chocolate Cherries
It’s great to have special treats to look forward to while taking a trip. Chukar Cherries hits the mark for chocolate lovers! Their Washington State grown cherries pair deliciously with their high quality milk and dark chocolate selections. You can get your cherries in resealable pouches that are perfect for portioning out while on the go.
Hot Tea
Staying hydrated while traveling is so important and enjoying a favorite tea can make it a little easier to drink enough. TSA has strong regulations on traveling with liquids and current rules are posted here. My strategy is to bring an empty thermos-style water bottle along and refill it with water on the other side of security. Many coffeeshops are happy to give you free hot water if there isn’t a line; once you have some hot water, pop in your Marketspice Tea in to brew and you’ll feel like a travel pro!
Beecher’s Cheese
Once you have your variety of snacks assembled, make sure you don’t miss out on grabbing a real meal at SeaTac! Our favorite spot at SeaTac airport is Beecher’s Handmade Cheese located in Concourse C. Beecher’s offers sandwiches, soups, salads, and of course their signature world’s best mac n’ cheese. You can even place an order through their app to avoid waiting in line and buy you more time to find your gate.
